People from Kingsley even stop me in the street and tell me, as well as when they're shopping from my market stalls. I get this every day, and I'm on a bit of a high as the election approaches, and I'm hoping we can chase out those Lib-Dem turkeys who we've all had to put up with for far too long.
I think the Independents will do well this election. Teddy McNab in Brookside and Dave Green and Harry Tuttle in Old Duston have a more than decent chance of getting in for 'Save Our Public Services', Tony Clarke should do well in Castle Ward, and I think I'm in with a very good chance in Kingsley Ward. To name just a few. People are teed off with the big main parties, and are looking for determined personalities who are going to get up off their backsides and take a stand for what the people want.
Nationally the Tories are unpopular for introducing sweeping cuts which haven't really hit the economy yet, at the same time as keeping their banker friends happy and unregulated while the rest of us have to pull in our belts. The Liberal Democrats have been a big disappointment to most people nationally for failing to change Tory policy, and locally they have been a disgrace, spending public money like water at a time of recession on lights that nobody sees and a fountain and a market square wi-fi system that just doesn't work. We have myriads of empty stalls now on the market, and only two years ago when they forcibly moved us every stall was full. As for New Labour - don't go there. It was their policies which wrecked the economy in the first place, allowing unregulated speculation - gambling - by the high street banks.
Make no mistake, the main parties are bankrupt of ideas, and composed of politicians whose main intention seems to be to get their feet in the trough, along with their friends and old school chums who own the banks and the supermarkets.
We need people who are going to promote better services in health, education, welfare and housing. We are living in an over-crowded country that is badly and expensively run, and we need to cut down on the froth at the top and keep and promote the basic services that really matter.
You may not know that because of cuts in the NHS budget, our own Northampton General Hospital is facing cuts of £21 Million. This means the number of essential operations will be cut, waiting times extended, and many patients will suffer as a result. This will be made worse by a number of hospital services which face privatisation, under a national policy of extending privatisation throughout health and other public services.
To round off, I think we Independents can do well if the people of Northampton are prepared to back us. Independents can work for the People. Together we can all make a difference to the future by voting Independent now.
