No excuses, action must be taken now...
As a market trader I meet many people in the course of my daily business and I have been hearing many complaints about the state of the old St Edmunds Hospital site on the Wellingborough Road.
It has been over eight years since the hospital was closed and only recently has any work been done.
People living in the vicinity are complaining of rats which infest the site coming out into the surrounding areas, frightening people and creating health hazards similar to those in the Middle Ages.
The board fencing around the site has fallen down in several places and is supported by bits of plank in others. The whole site is a disgrace, and it is high time the Northampton Borough Council or the West Northants Development Corporation or whoever the current controlling authority may be, forced the developers to clean up their act.
That such a festering sore is allowed to continue so close to the town centre reflects very badly on the town's council, the health authorities and the developers. Something practical must be done to clean up the site and it must be done now, not just talked about and forgotten about again.
Somebody needs to make a stand against big businesses. I only say what people are thinking. Visit my website at www.fitzynorthampton.co.uk
