I see the Lib-Dems have been talking about changing the surface of the market square; perhaps even bringing back cobbles in some form or another.
I wouldn't want to see the cobbles back. I stood on them for about 20 years and it's terrible for your feet. You need tough boots if you're standing on cobbles all day.
Councillor Church suggested looking at all sorts of surfaces. Perhaps we should have a bit of Astroturf. It would look nice, as if all the stalls were standing on grass.
When there wasn't much trade the traders could play the councillors at knock-about cricket up the main aisle, or play five-a-side football on the civic area.
That's if there are any traders left if rents stay as high as they are. There seem to be less of us every day. Cheap stalls rents and cheap parking for punters are two of the main items to be implemented if the council wants to see the Town Centre start to revive as a shopping area again.
