As a market trader I think cheap stall rents and cheap parking for punters
are two of the main items to be implemented if this Lib Dem council wants to see Northampton town centre start to revive as a shopping area.
Markets are unfortunately a gradually vanishing part of our national heritage and I am proud to have captured on film to a small degree a living part of that heritage.
A point I have brought up several times recently, talking both to local people and in my letters to the local newspapers, is that Northampton Market Square lacks a focal point on it.
I recently walked along St Giles street and noticed the independent shops with their Christmas window displays. The St Giles Street traders are imaginative and independent-minded and I wish them all a prosperous Christmas.
I feel a sense of injustice towards supermarkets and retail parks with their free parking advantage they have over us town centre traders.
"The fight goes on" is what I say.
