With so much retail competition from supermarkets these days,
it is more important than ever that the market industry look at ways to retain its share of the shopper's pound.
As a fruit and vegetable merchant on Northampton's lovely market square, may I say I can still undercut the big boys on both quality and price. My customers expect champagne at lemonade prices, and that's what I aim to give them.
The 'King Kong' of supermarkets, Tesco, whose slogan is 'Every little helps' should have to change it to 'Every little hurts'. With their free parking policy us town centre traders cannot compete. To increase the amount of people who visit the town centre to do their shopping we need to have free parking too, just like the big retail parks.
