I have recently contemplated taking part in the forthcoming County Council Elections, standing against Richard Church in the Kingsley Ward. I have a number of reasons for doing this, both personal and on behalf of Northampton Market and the People of Northampton.
To begin with, this is the geezer who lost me and every other trader a lot of money when he had us moved, and is still losing us money. This recent market move has really hurt my business. Like most traders since the move, I'm between a third and a half down on my takings, but I still have the same bills to pay. So now it's time for a bit of payback.
This is the man who - along with his cronies Tony Woods and Brendan Glynane - is intent on destroying Northampton's 800-year-old market in the next two years, and taking away that market from the working people of Northampton. Many of the people who use Northampton Market come from the deprived areas nearby, and the market is the only place they can buy their fresh fruit and vegetables cheaply at below supermarket prices.
A multiplicity of people of all races, colours and creeds use our market as a common shopping centre, and they all get on very well together, and enjoy the market atmosphere which, for some of them at least, must evoke memories of their homelands. All this will be lost if the market goes.
We must also remember that Richard Church is the guy in charge of Regeneration in the town centre. But the area has been Degenerating faster since he took over than at any time before; he is therefore incompetent and not up to dealing with the situation.
I think I could do a much better job than Richard Church, be it on the County or the Borough Councils. Looking at what he's done so far, along with his cronies, he's not going to be a hard act to follow. The full market, balloon festival, town show, fireworks, carnival, Christmas decorations and public toilets are all going or gone. It's time we hit back at the councillors and the political party responsible. Wherever we find them, let us remove them from office.
Church is one of the Liberal Democrat leaders who said before the last NBC election that they wouldn't be using any consultants. Now two years on they are paying consultants between £500 and £880 a day. That makes all of them liars in my book. It is about time the Liberal Democrat party in Northampton felt the cold wind of change blowing around their necks. They are in for the chop when the Borough Council elections arrive in two years time, but it would be nice to give them a chill by removing them from the County Council first.
So to Stand, or not to Stand? Looking at it from my viewpoint, what do you reckon?
