My leaflets are out across the entire Kingsley Ward; I've had scores of kind remarks from Kingsley people who shop on my stalls, and there is a real interest in the issues involved. I eagerly anticipate going to the count on Friday.
People want a change, there's no doubt about that. Both in local and national government. People are tired of the two-faced lying and denials of wrong-doing they keep getting, when it's blindingly obvious to anyone of average intelligence who is to blame. Big-party politicians seem to think that if you tell a lie enough times, people will eventually believe it.
It was Adolf Hitler who first used this as a deliberate policy, and dishonest politicians have been doing it ever since, becoming increasingly strident as time goes by. Our local Liberal Democrats have been using this technique to try to kid everyone about what a fine job they've made of moving Northampton Market to the top of the Square, and having so-called 'events' on the large waste space at the bottom. In reality, so far it's been a failure, if it's purpose was to increase spending in the town centre.
Ask any market trader and they will tell you things have gone from bad to worse since the move, with takings drastically down and long-standing traders leaving. As for the 'events', well, ask any trader and they'll tell you that all these events are bad for trade because they attract people away from the market, and they'll tell you how noisy events are the very worst of all.
But still we get the Lib-Dems like Church and Glynane saying how wonderful it all is, and the Market Officer asking people to look at the move 'more positively'. How can you be positive about something that is costing you a financial loss of hundreds of pounds a week? Do these people live in some sort of Fairyland? Would they be 'positive' about having their salaries cut by 40%? I rather think not.
Anyway, back to the election. Zero hour approaches, there is a fine sense of anticipation in the air; people are ready to go out and make a change. I call upon all the worthy people living in Kingsley to get out there and vote for me on the 4th; with your help we can do it together, we can make change happen.
