In the interview Blair is very careful not to blame God for the decision to invade Iraq. He said his religious faith gave him the reassurance that his decisions were right. Perhaps he felt justified in being a modern-day crusader, invading a country with a rival faith?
Tony Blair with his partner George Bush misled the British people into a war they did not want. I remember the big peace march in February 2003 in London was the first march I had in all my life.
Blair knew changing the Iraqi regime by military means was illegal, but he couldn't resist the glamour it gave him. In that sense he was weak. 'I would never do anything against the advice of the Attorney General.' He said on numerous occasions. But he did, as we all know.
Lord Goldsmith's confidential advice to the Prime Minister on the legality of invading Iraq without a second UN resolution was quite clear: "Regime change," insisted the Attorney General, "cannot be the object of military action." Any invasion which had that goal would be unambiguously illegal under international law.
To quote Alasdair Palmer in the Daily Telegraph, 1st of May 2005:
'As everyone knows now, and knew perfectly well then, the whole point of the invasion of Iraq was regime change. President Bush said so with Tony Blair standing by his side. At the joint press conference the two leaders gave at George Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, on April 6, 2002, he helpfully summed up the purpose of the military action against Iraq in a single sentence: "We support regime change." For George Bush, no further elaboration was necessary.'
Blair said six months before the invasion that "intelligence had established beyond doubt" that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Then they tried to scamper around to find the evidence, but it wasn't there. So they tried to make it up and fudge through, which is what these sort of people do when there is no real evidence.
Only earlier this month former Director of Public Prosecutions Sir Ken Macdonald said Blair and Bush engaged in 'an alarming subterfuge' to drag their nations into war. Blair will be questioned about his approach in the New Year when the Chilcot Inquiry into the war turns its attention to the legality issue. I would like to see him tried as a war criminal, and convicted; but I rather think I will see him whitewashed.
On the present political front, speculation mounts that Gordon Brown may call an early election, maybe on March 25th 2010. Locally, Andrew Simpson will be putting up as the hopeful for the Liberal Democrats in Northampton North. These are the gang who have probably been the very worst political party controlling the council here in Northampton in all the years I can remember, and that's going some, as they say in the USA.
The Lib-Dems have got almost everyone's backs up in one way or another, whether it's the Market or the Cobblers or just a downright stupid waste of public money; and to crown it all I have heard that as soon as the German Market has gone and the festivities are over, they are going to quietly close down the Superloo, the only decent public toilets in the Town Centre. What a disgraceful dirty bunch! The walk-through subways and alleyways will be fouled on a regular basis. Dirty Liberal Democrats making it a Dirty Old Town! We've been here before, not long ago:

Simpson will get nowhere in a General Election because he is guilty by association, especially when the opposition start raking the manure out, and there's plenty of it to rake.
I also hear a whisper that some of his Independent opposition are discussing combining forces. Considering how well they did on their own in the last local election, this should give the Lib-Dems some sleepless nights!
If I don't blog again before the big day, a Very Merry Christmas to all my friends, fans, and followers! Here's a link to a great Irish Christmas Song:
